Learning and the Brain Conference

Sylvia Martinez will co-present with Paulo Blikstein, Associate Professor at Stanford University and director of the Transformative Learning Technologies Lab on “Meaningful Making: Combining Hands-on with Heads-in.”

The Learning & the Brain conference on “The Science of Student Learning” will explore what the learning sciences says about effective instruction and feedback. It will focus on the science and practice of Effective instructional strategies (teaching, study skills, memory, metacognition, praise, feedback), Engagement (motivation, agency, growth mindsets, self-efficacy, confidence), Expertise (deliberative practice, mastery and competency), Exploration & Play (hands-on student-centered learning, imaginative play, creative innovation), Design Thinking and Making (design thinking, makerspaces, critical thinking, inquiry, scientific thinking, active learning), and Social Cognition and Collaboration (peers, parents and social skills).
