Sylvia Martinez and Gary Stager have been invited to The White House to celebrate the start of the
National Week of Making (June 17-23) at a kick-off event on Friday, June 17, 2016. This gathering will preview the Nation of Makers events and bring together individuals from around the country who are leading efforts to empower, support, and inspire makers and will help kick off the National Week of Making.
Martinez and Stager are co-authors of “Invent To Learn: Making, Tinkering, and Engineering in the Classroom” which has been lauded as the “bible” of the school maker movement. The maker movement in schools is a global effort to create more opportunities for students to engage in rich, relevant courses that combine hands-on projects with innovative new technology from 3D printing to wearable computers to coding.
“Makers and builders and doers — of all ages and backgrounds — have pushed our country forward, developing creative solutions to important challenges and proving that ordinary Americans are capable of achieving the extraordinary when they have access to the resources they need.” – President Obama, National Week of Making Proclamation
Stager and Martinez will also be speaking at the
National Maker Faire, held June 18 & 19th in Washington DC and meeting with other stakeholders in events convened by the White House
